Here it is, the many ways my family is green. Well, we aren't that green but I'd like us to be. Just like with my life greening I do these things because I believe they are right and what is best for my family.

Organic food lacks chemicals and has so much more nutritional value to it than non organic foods. Organic food is a very important part of our weekly grocery shopping. Almost all that we buy is organic. There are times when we want something that isn't in season which makes it impossible to get it in organic. Organic produce is easy to spot, it's label will have a number which starts with '9'. I've recently discovered that even organics may have small traces of pesticides on them. No, no, farmers are not secretly spraying these crops. It turns out that many organic farms are right next to the chemical coated farms. A single breeze can and will blow some of the chemicals over to the organic produce. Even when this happens these items are still safer and healthier for you. So, even though it's labeled 'organic' you may still want to wash it and wash it good. I wrote a blog a little while back titled, 'Does that come in Organic, which I would recommend you read. Of course I recommend it, I wrote it! I highly recommend all of my blogs.

I've quit using chemical cleaners. At first I started using vinegar, which did an amazing job cleaning my bathroom but, it smelled awful. I do still use just vinegar and baking soda to clean my kitchen sink. I first do a wipe down with just baking soda. Then I dump some down the drain followed by a bit of vingear, it helps keep the drains clear. I've also been using green cleaners and they work just as well as those disgusting chemical ones. They smell better and are so much better for my health and the health of my family.

Now, I don't compost but my husband does. We don't throw any food scraps into the trash can it all goes out in the compost pile. Believe me, our trash can is a whole lot less smelly, it's wonderful.

Yes, this is the easy one, recycling. You'll find that you have alot less trash. Recycling is really easy and if they're old enough you can even get kids involved. Some younger children might enjoy sorting bottles and cans.

Another easy one is to swap out all your standard bulbs and replace them with CFL's. They cost a bit more to start but you'll save money. These bulbs come in just as many sizes and types as the standard bulbs so no excuse! Buy some today to save money and energy.

I've been turning off the power strip in our kitchen. I mean, who actually needs 6 clocks? There is a clock on my microwave, one on the wall, coffee maker, clock radio and stove. So, when I'm not using these things they are just sucking energy. By turning off my power strip I go from 5 to 3 clocks and less energy is being used. I suppose I should unplug the microwave too, but I'll get to that later when I stop using it so much. Next I plan to turn off the power strip in the living room. I've also been unplugging chargers when I'm not using them. Hopefully soon I'll see a difference in my electric bill, hopefully.
